Richard Duncan

Richard was born in Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia to Ira Jeriah and Mildred Grace Jones Duncan where he joined brother William Ira and sister Linda Jane. Family moved to Detroit, MI where little sister Margaret Louise was born.  He graduated from Redford High School.  When his father accepted a position as chemist in his native Georgia, Richard and sister Louise moved with their parents.  

Richard attended West Georgia College prior to enlisting in the US Navy in 1961.  He served with honor through his time in the reserves in 1967 as a “Hospitalman/Corpsman.” When discharged, Richard secured a position as a Packaging Engineer.  He and 1st wife, Joel had 2 children, Bradley, and Kelly. They lived in Ohio for a few years.

Richard married 2nd, Beverly of Fort Lauderdale, FL where they lived for 30 years.  He became a licensed US Coast Guard Captain and enjoyed piloting yachts and crew boats. They spent many years cruising the waters of Florida and the Bahamas.

Richard and Beverly moved to Anderson, IN to be near his son and their children.    

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sisters.  He leaves behind his two children, five grandchildren, nieces, nephews in the Detroit area, Indiana, South Carolina, and Georgia.       

Richard became an active member of Anderson First United Methodist Church and has lent his voice to the support of the Indy Veteran’s House where he and Beverly spent days and nights during his treatment for cancer, both are worthy of your gifts in lieu of flowers.
