About My Career:

I was a country potter in a village in Canada while my daughter, Lisa, was growing up. Then I worked at historic Pewabic Pottery in Detroit for three years (on four People Mover murals; I designed the one at Cadillac Station). Then I went to graduate school in upstate New York (at the same time that my daughter entered college :). Soon after earning my M.F.A. I was hired at Eastern Michigan University, where I taught for 28 years, until 2019, when I retired ;) During those years I made lots of pots and sculpture,
and also about 5 more murals, mostly in downtown Detroit hospitals. Time flies!

What grade school(s) did you go to?

Cooke Elementary

College (w/degrees):

Wayne State Univeristy, B.F.A.

Grad School (w/degrees):

N.Y.S.C.C. at Alfred, New York

States/Countries: (where have you lived?)

I lived in Cottam, a village of 600 people in Ontario, for about 20 years, from 1974 to 1994.
Then I returned to the U.S. and lived in Ypsilanti where I taught at E.M.U. for 28 years.
I have lived in Saline, MIchigan--a community just a bit south of downtown Ann Arbor--for
the past 14 years.

Greg:

I have a handmade, green-gray textured slab cup – about 5 inches high. On the bottom of the cup is signed Pan. I do not use it for coffee each morning but often enough, and I recall who made the cup and gave it to me. Diana Pancioli.

Diana gave it to me on the weekend of our Redford High School (Detroit) reunion in 2010. On the Saturday morning of the weekend reunion, Diana led a small group of a tour of the elevated APM (automatic people mover) tram that moves around downtown Detroit. Diana was a member of the committee/commission that planned the design of each tram station. Following her tour, a group of us had lunch at a restaurant along the Detroit River. Since she had led the tour, I treated her for lunch, and at dinner that evening, she gave me the cup.
